For my cousin Casey's birthday I painted her a picture of our favorite song, 11th Dimension by Julian Casablancas. Everytime we listen to it we say the beginning sounds like a cat playing the piano, hence the orange and blue cat playing piano on the swirly stage. The song has a giddy, electronic sound that I portrayed through the swirls of vibrant colors along with great lyrics that I incorporated into the painting. She said she loved it and it is now hanging up on her bedroom wall!

Lion King

The first present my mom, nana, sister, and  I opened on Christmas morning was a ticket to see the Lion King at the Hippodrome Theatre in Baltimore. Needless to say, I was ecstatic. I had seen the show before in New York, but I was just a youngster so I don't remember much of it--besides the fact that I got an awesome jean jacket with the lion king's face stitched into the back.

Before the show I dug up my old jean jacket to try it on and surprisingly it still fit! The arm length was a tad short, but nothing I couldn't handle.

Our seats were amazing. Close enough to the stage to see the actor's faces clearly, but far enough to take in the entire set. The actors walked, ran, danced down the aisles where I was seated as they made their way into the stage so we got a close up of the spectacular costumes and make-up. The costume designer for this production has some serious talent.

One scene that particularly stuck out for me was the scene when Simba meets Timone and Pumba. As they're singing "Hakuna Matata" the lighting in the foreground of the stage goes dark while the background is lit up with warm colors red, orange, and yellow causing just the silhouettes of the characters to be visible. It was beautiful.

I had been telling my nana for a few weeks that I was going to paint her something as soon as I found the inspiration.

Everyone should check out my friend Ryan's website! He graduated from Towson last semester, is extremely talented, and can do just about anything art related. He inspired me to pursue art and was the reason I made the decision to add it to my Mass Comm major.

Here's another option for my header. Not entirely sure which one to use! Any suggestions?
